16 bit and 8 bit

Post by DanK »

Hi Robin:

The manual suggests running SA in 16 bit and 8 bit. Won't the 8 bit version if executed after the 16 sensor analysis over write it?

Hi Dan,

it will for an ASCOM camera, because you don't have a way in the SharpCap UI to choose between 8 and 16 bit (again that is hidden in the ASCOM driver config window). For directly supported cameras (ZWO, Altair, QHY, etc), SharpCap can tell which mode the camera is in and can keep the two results separate.

So, in your case, just run it in 16 bit mode and leave it at that.

cheers,

Robin
