[SOLVED] SSAG Not Working in Sharpcap 3.0

#1

Post by Stargazer66 »

I know there has been a lot about the SSAG and Sharpcap but I can't seem to find a solution.

I am running Windows Vista with SP2 and Sharpcap 3.0. I have ASCOM Platform 6 installed as well as the Orion ASCOM driver.

When I click on the 'Orion SSAG Camera' under the camera tab, I get the SSAG Configuration blue window. When I click on OK or the close dialogue box button I get the error message about the known problem with the Orion Ascom driver and that Sharpcap will try to ignore the problem. When I close this window I get the Error Starting Camera message about not being able to find the DLL file SSAG_DRV.DLL and to try unplugging the camera, restarting windows, etc. On closing this window Sharpcap reverts back to its initial state waiting for a camera to be selected. If I select the SSAG again I get exactly the same result.

My SSAG works in PHD2 but wont work in Astrophotography Tools either; I get an unhandled exception error after I close the SSAG Configuration blue window.

I really want to get this camera working with Sharpcap as I believe the Polar Alignment feature will be an absolute godsend as I have to set my kit up every time I want to use it.

I have included the log file for one of the failures. I hope this helps and that you can help.

Bryan

Hi Robin, thanks for the reply.

I did read through that thread and I have uninstalled all the drivers and then reinstalled all the latest drivers but it still won't work.

Perhaps it is something to do with the age of Vista? I will carry on playing and see what I can do.

Thanks again, Bryan

Ok, well the solution in that thread would be the 'good' solution. It's possible that you may be able to get a workable (but ugly) solution by finding the missing DLL (SSAG_DRV.dll) if you can somewhere on your machine and then copying it to the SharpCap install folder. It might work as it certainly ought to be able to find the DLL if you do that!

cheers,

Hi Robin,

Just did a full search of all my hard drives and no SSAG_DRV.DLL file!

On my system I found it in c:\windows\syswow64 (would be c:\windows\system32 on 32 bit windows). Not that I have a camera, but I did install the software once to test out an idea...

Mind you, if it was there then it should automatically get picked up. If I were you I would re-install the ASCOM driver and the SSAG Autoguider drivers (top of the download list) and see if that gets you anywhere. If still no joy then let me know and I will send you a copy of the DLL, although I'm not sure if it will help.

cheers,

Robin

Hi Robin,

It's working! :D

I uninstalled the V2 Win XP/Vista/7 drivers and installed the V5.1 Win7/8/10 drivers and it works. I don't know why the 32 bit Vista drivers won't work on a 32 bit Vista OS machine but Win 7/8/10, 64 bit drivers will?!?

Anyway, happy bunny here! Thanks for all your help & suggestions

Regards, Bryan
