Auto WB not working

ver. 10.3695 - ASI1600MCC the auto WB does not work. It does work in 2.9.

Hi,

I don't have a 1600MC, but have tested with a 174MC and an 071C and in both cases the auto white balance seems to work for me. Does nothing at all happen when you press the button or does the white balance change but to something that isn't correct?

Robin, nothing happens. I've tried numerous times with the beta version and no go. But works with latest 2.9 ver. In fact I use the 2.9 version to get the approximate balance and then enter them in to the beta version.

Ok, please try the following test for me (no need for astro test, just taking the cap off the camera so you get a yellow/orange blur onscreen will be fine)

* Adjust the exposure so that what you see onscreen is some sort of yellow/orange colour - make sure it's not saturated white or solid black
* Turn off auto for the White Balance (R) control, then wind it all the way up to maximum - your on screen yellow blur should turn much redder
* Turn the auto white balance back on - watch the number and the slider as you turn back on - the number should drop down from the maximum and the slider should move too. The image should go back to yellow too.

Let me know which steps above have the expected behaviour and which don't, and please also capture and send the log after running these tests. I don't really expect the log to tell me much, but it will rule a few things out.

PS. Just occurred to me - have you got the very latest ZWO drivers installed? Might be worth checking that too.

Following your instructions it works just fine. So I don't know what I was doing the hours I was on and no response from the auto settings. I started and stopped the program atleast 6 times with no Auto WB function.

I wouldn't recommend using the ZWO ASCOM drivers with SharpCap as you get better control of the camera through built-in support. ASCOM support is really there for cameras (like may Atik or Starlight Express) that SharpCap doesn't support directly.

If you do work out the exact situation under which the auto white balance wasn't working properly then give me a shout and I will do my best to fix it.

As I just indicated with ASI Ascom driver the color balance was bluish green and I have no control of that, there are no WB controls in SC when ASI Ascom is selected.

The problem is that ASCOM only gives access to some very basic controls, so that the most SharpCap can show is resolution, binning, exposure, gain and cooler.

Other controls for an ASCOM driver *may* be available in the ASCOM driver setup dialog (press the 'Show' button for the options), but what's in there is down to the ASCOM driver writer - ie ZWO in this case.

ASCOM is, as you can see, pretty limited in the control it can give you over the camera, so it's something to fall back on when you have no other option.
