Polar Alignment Refraction Correction Bug

#1

Post by HenryNZ »

I have tried refraction correction from my Southern Hemisphere correction. At the adjustment screen there are two labels, one says SCP and one says NCP. I presume it is just a simple case of the text of the label is wrong, but I found that the guiding performance was poorer with refraction correction on. From my experience with PoleMaster, refraction correction helped my guiding, so I wonder if the direction of the correction was incorrect too - although I will need to do more tests to verify this.

Hi,

thanks for letting me know - I can fix the wording easily enough :)

As to the 'is it in the right direction in the southern hemisphere' question - refraction makes things seem higher up (in altitude) than they really are, so you should find that if you align with the non-refracted pole then you need to move the mount down (ie reduce altitude so that the poleward pointing part is lower) from that position to align with the refracted pole.

Hope that makes sense,

Robin

This bug hasn't been fixed. It still says NCP.
