sharpcap 2.8 will not show picture

These are all screenshots of the non working Elitebook. Playing arond wit PAL A, NTSC, SECAM, unknown ...... does not change anything at all. All the other settings are like the on on te running netbook. If you need more screenshots pls. let me know.

Thr HP Elitbook 8440p is with a nonn German keybord. There are stickers on each button so that you can use it like a German one .... the netbook is genuine German keyboard .....

Playing around I found out something that might be of interest to you:
Working netbook
I conect the ezcap video grabber to the notebook and open up sharpcap - camera is not connected to grabber but USB device is ticked, then there is a black screen. I then conect camera to grabber then there is the desired picuture !

Non working Elitebook:
grabber connected to Elitebook, open sharpcap, click USB device- then flickering horizontal lines as shown in the screenshot. Conect camera nothing happens !

Thanks for the screenshots - I have exactly the same pattern on my desktop PC when I tested without a camera. I've fixed this before, I've just got to remember how (probably will require me to dig out the old camcorder which is the only device I still have that outputs composite video!)

but when I connect the ezcap grabber to the netbook without the camera there is a black screen - no flickering horizontal lines at all.
If I then plug the watec camera into the grabber there is the picture !
I do think it is not right, that there are these flickering horizontal lines ....

Hi,

having tested this, I see exactly what you see (white/black lines) on two different computers with my genuine EzCap. With my 'cheap' "EasyCap" that shows up as 'SMI Grabber Device' everything works fine and I get an image.

Further investigation revealed it is a driver issue - I installed the drivers labelled 'ThumbDTV_5.7.129.0.zip' from this page - https://visser.io/2015/06/easycap-drive ... ndows-8-1/ - and now I get an image, although it glitches now and then. I get the same results with driver 5.8.306 (attached). Note that for both of these I had to update the driver by unzipping the files, then going to the device manager and selecting

* properties on USB 2861 device
* Driver Tab
* Update Driver
* Browse My Computer for driver software
* Let me pick from a list...
* Have Disk
* Browse (to the location containing the driver .inf files)

You may wish to check the driver version you have on the working PC and see if you can find the matching install. Before updating I also tested with WxAstroCapture and got the same result with the white/black 'barcode' pattern - this demonstrates that the problem is at the driver/device software level and not an issue with SharpCap.

Hopefully this should get you sorted or at least on the path to finding the right working drivers for your device.

I got my ezcap working on Windows 10 using the Windows 8.1 driver.
