SC 2.10 resets tracking rate to sidereal

#1

Post by NeilG »

Robin,

Hi. This is more of an inconvenience than a bug. Haven't tried it with 2.9

I have both SC 2.10 and Carte du Ciel connected to my EQ8 using the ASCOM Telescope Hub (POTH) driver and and EQMOD - they all seem to get along just fine, except for the fact than whenever I change the exposure settings for my camera (ASI 1600MM-Cool), sharpcap resets the tracking rate to Sidereal (I'm using EQMODs voice prompts - which is how I noticed. )
This is obviously inconvenient when I'm doing solar work and have the tracking rate set to solar :-)

Not sure, but suspect the same will be true if the tracking is set to Lunar. Is this a 'feature' or a bug?

It's easy enough to reset to solar - one click on my gamepad.

Regards
Neil

That's a bid odd - I could understand it resetting to sidereal if you move the mount using the SharpCap controls or turn the tracking on/off, but I wouldn't have expected it to happen when changing the camera exposure!

I will have to investigate :)

I'm beginning to think this one is down to me - nothing wrong with SC. I may have my EQMOD voice configuration incorrect. - Can't reproduce it on another PC using the ASCOM simulator.

I'll get back in the dome and investigate further

sorry!

No worries,

I think you may find that the movement buttons and possibly the tracking on/off button may reset to sidereal tracking after they are used, which is something I will definitely check on. If you do find anything else then let me know.

cheers,

Robin,

I've done some more tests - and I'm not quite as nuts as I thought.

i) Changing exposure does NOT change tracking rate

ii) Changing Colour Space (in my case from MONO8 to MONO 16) or the Capture Area DOES cause Tracking rate to be reset to Sidereal.

Thoughts?

My configuration is:-
i) SC 2.10 v3649 connected via EQMOD to ASCOM Telescope Hub
ii) Carte Du Ciel 4.0 connected via EQMOD to ASCOM Telescope Hub
iii) Hub connected to EQ8.

Regards
Neil

I have now partly fixed this bug for the next version of SharpCap - changing of colour space should no longer switch the tracking rate back to sidereal.

I also tried to fix the code so that pressing the direction buttons would put the original tracking rate back when you let them go, but this seems not to be possible with the EQMOD EQASCOM simulator - the simulator reports to SharpCap that it is in Sidereal tracking mode even when put into other modes, so SharpCap puts the rate back to Sidereal because it has been told that the rate was originally sidereal... I think this is an EQMOD bug that I can't do much about. Maybe it's only a bug in the simulator (hopefully).

cheers,

Robin
