Thanks for the update - so the state of play is :

3.0 is fine
3.1 breaks for you in both the real camera and the testing camera.

Most of the logs are truncated - that means SharpCap died without writing the rest of the log. We will need to get a crash dump from SharpCap, which means I have to work out why they are not working properly. I will get back to you when I have some news on this.

If you are happy using regedit, please could you look in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AstroSharp Limited\SharpCap\3.1 and find the value of the 'InstallationID' value - it will be a long series of numbers and letters. If you send this to me then I will be able to check among my uploaded bug reports and find any that you have sent, which might help point me in the right direction.

For 4791.0 the installation ID is 3215ae93-3f2b-4932-8428-5d803791dc57

I brought out an older laptop running the same version of Win 10 updated to the most recent update.. The laptop has four GB of memory, and older intel processor and no USB 3 ports. I downloaded 4791.0 and stacking appears to work as it should. I noticed that it used less CPU time and half the memory. I hope that is a clue but not a clue that the desktop I use for SC is the problem.

After confirming that both machines do have the latest updates I retried 4791.0 with the normal m42 image and again it crashed after one frame.

Hi David,

I must say it's all a bit weird. I have just checked and the last 3.1 bug report I had uploaded from you was in early November and related to a USB frame grabber, so unfortunately nothing to go on there.

I have also tested the /dump option and for me it seems to be working correctly - I get a good crash dump file saved on the desktop.

Please can you try to create a crash dump using the Microsoft 'Procdump' tool? Download from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysint ... s/procdump, unzip and then from a command prompt run

procdump -e -w sharpcap
Once you have done this, run SharpCap and cause it to crash - hopefully when you go back to the command prompt window you will see some messages about a Dump having been completed - please send that dump file to me (maybe easiest to upload somewhere like dropbox or google drive, then send the link via private message).

Also, as a separate experiment, if you have antivirus, try turning it off temporarily just in case that makes any difference (when you get to the point that nothing seems to behave as expected, you always have to at least consider antivirus being at the root of it...)

Problem Resolved with "Run as Administrator"

I recalled a fix that sometimes works with Windows desktop applications (not Store "apps") and tried it. I removed 3.1, downloaded the latest beta, saved it to disk, and then to install it I right clicked the setup file and selected "Run as Administrator". Instalation and operation were trouble free.

Installing and runing a program with elevated privileges isn't a good idea unless you have reason as in this case to trust the program.
