Sequence file names in V4

#1

Post by cairomike »

Hi.

In V3 if I do a sequence of single frames at, say 1s intervals, all frames are put into a single time stamped folder with increasing index.
In V4 if I do the same sequence then each frame is put into a separate time stamped folder with the index fixed at 00001.

I have identical file naming in the settings of both versions.

Is this behaviour change deliberate or is it a bug in V4?

Regards
Mike Cuffe

Hmm,

I think it is deliberate, at least mostly. V3 had a bug where sometimes the old numbering could be continued when it shouldn't have been. I fixed that bug for V4, but it looks like the bug was a desireable feature in this case.

I will have to investigate whether the old behaviour can come back for this.

cheers,

Hi Robin, thanks for the reply.

I regularly do sequence capture to create time-lapse videos of the Sun using a Coronado PST, taking an image every 15s for as many hours as is possible. The behaviour in V3 is way more convenient as I can import a single folder into PIPP to create the video. There is a work around by unchecking the 'Create subfolder for each sequence' but it still isn't quite the same as V3, and then I have to remember to check it again when doing deep sky imaging.

Hi Mike,

I quite agree - I had a dig and I think I have managed to re-instate the V3.2 behaviour (hopefully without affecting anything else).

Nice video of the CME - particularly interesting how it seems to get partially sucked back in at the end.

cheers,

Robin

Hi Robin

That's great news, I look forward to the new release.

Re. The Video
It was a complete surprise, I didn't see it happening as I'd just left the system capturing images while doing other stuff. So you can imagine my reaction when I viewed the video. As a consequence of not paying attention, right in the middle of the event I did a pier direction swap so missed part of it, but what I got is the best Solar activity I've captured so far, all thanks to SharpCap :) .

Mike
