I was using my new ZWO 174 MM (mono) camera for the first time on Jupiter and Saturn last night. For some reason, I was only able to get an average of 30 FPS on those two planets. I had the turbo mode on 100 and then I turned it down to 80 and Auto and I got the same result. My images were 640X480 so I would of had expected faster frame rates. I was using Mono 8.
What's weird about this I can use the same camera on the Sun using 640x480 and I get close to 300 FPS so why wouldn't I get the same on Jupiter and Saturn? It will also be nice if the FPS were logged in the Camera Setting.TXT member unless I missed it somewhere. My concern is the quality won't be as good at 30 FPS Versus 300 FPS.
I have done imaging before with my OSC ZWO 178MC camera but I don't recall what my FPS was.
I am running the latest Beta Version which expires on July 1st.

Re: Frames Per Second Issue with ZWO Mono Camera
Hello
What were your exposure times?
For the sun you need way shorter exposure times and you can get high FPS.
As for the planets you need a longer exposure time, so your FPS will be lower.

Re: Frames Per Second Issue with ZWO Mono Camera
Hi,
yes, as Menno says a relatively long exposure will limit your FPS - for instance if you set the exposure to 50ms, you cannot get more than 20fps, 100ms cannot go above 10fps, etc.
Another thing that could limit the frame rate is a USB2 rather than USB3 connection.

Thanks for the responses and that makes sense.
