Feature tracking calibration problem

#1

Post by hugo52 »

Hello, my setup is ASI178, celestron C11 edgehd, Ioptron CEM60.
I was pointing to the moon and first start monitor.
You see then many alignment points, no problem.
Then calibration, the moon jumped direct much and later the calibration failed.

So I tried many calibration settings some times it was doing something but later fail again.
Hope you can help me.

Hi Hugo,

did you try different options in the 'Movement Speed' drop down. In particular if your image jumps around when using 1x, 2x, 4x, etc, try using the 'Guiding Rate' option. Some mounts can happily superimpose a movement rate on top of tracking, while others struggle to do that smoothly and may require using the slower guiding rate (which is used for pulse guiding).

cheers,

Robin

No, I tried every combination, calibration and guiding.
Pls advice what should be the settings.
I have ASI178MM Celestron C11 and Ioptron CEM60.

Hi,

I would suggest preferring the 'guiding rate' option, providing you see movement of the object while the calibration is in progress. If you do not see movement then work up through the other rates in increasing speed.

Probably the best thing is to send me a screenshot showing the graphs that get shown and any error message when the calibration fails and the SharpCap log which contains much more detail on the calibration measurements.

Unfortunately this feature has remained 'experimental' for exactly this reason - getting calibration and smooth movements is hard since different ASCOM mounts respond very differently.

cheers,

Robin

Hi Robin, it is a important tool.
I made myself a little tool who is correcting every 10 seconds.
Maybe it is for sharpcap a good idea to make this simple option.
Pls look at the result after 30 minutes tracking (my tool) and the filtered tool from sharpcap:

I did try again every option but always a fail.

Hi,

maybe I'm missing something, but your link took me to an image of the Appennine range that you took - it's a super image but not quite sure how it relates to feature tracking :(

cheers,

Robin
