The dark capture feature only produces an averaged .png file, no matter what i have selected in the Capture Format and Area. I tried different colour spaces to no avail. All documentation I can find states it should be a .fits file.

Hi,
Try going into the SharpCap settings and changing the default still image format from PNG to fits. I think that should solve the problem for you.

Hi,
Even better to fix it so that if you have chosen PNG or FITS in the output format drop-down while capturing flats or darks then it will obey that preference. I just made that change
Of course if you have some unsuitable format selected like JPEG or AVI then it will fallback on the preferred still file format as it currently does.
