Advanced saving in live stack is bugged
Hi Robin
Inside Live Stack, I am used to save and reset frames every x minutes
I wanted to change the time in minutes between two "save and reset" operations
Live stack becomes crazy and start saving each frame....
If I unclick the advanced save and reset, the Live stack comes back to normal behavior.
If I click again, craziness comes back.
It seems to occur when I have quited SharpCap with this "advanced saving" ticked. When I re-enter SC and re-enter Live Stack, "advance saving" number is red. If I want to activate it, then the bug occurs.
I have reproduced the bug with test camera 1 (deep sky)
Here attached is the log with my actions written at the proper moment
Jean-Paul
NB: by the way, is it normal Live Stack to save BOTH 16 and 32-bits files ?

Re: Advanced saving in live stack is bugged
Hi,
What number do you end up putting in the box to make it turn red? I can make it turn red by deleting all the numbers in the box but then if I close SharpCap and reopen it the last number that was previously selected appears in the box and it isn't red.
Cheers, Robin

Re: Advanced saving in live stack is bugged
Hi,
I suspect that somehow the time between resets is internally being set to 0 minutes in spite of the UI showing a different value. I can't quite work out how that could happen at the moment but I'm going to add some logging to the next version that will help confirm if that is the problem.
Cheers, Robin

Thank you Robin
Is it normal that LS saves both 16 and 32 bits files ?
I only use 32 bits now.

Re: Advanced saving in live stack is bugged
Hi,
Yes, both bit depth of saved in the autosave as it's difficult to know for sure which one the user will want. Easier to save both and let the user delete the one they don't want them to have some possibly complicated way to set which one to save by default.
Cheers, Robin

Re: Advanced saving in live stack is bugged
Hi,
I saw this post and thought I'd add that I noticed an odd behavior when using the Advanced Save. Using 3.2.6117.0, I had it set to auto save every 6 minutes, and I was using 15 second exposures, which I would expect to save 24 frames. Instead it saves 25. Not a big deal, but thought I'd mention it. With 15 sec exposures it doesn't impact much, but if someone was doing longer exposures it might be an issue.
Also, might it be possible to get a "Save as displayed" option for the Advanced Save? Part of what I really like about live stacking is the reduction of post-processing I have to put in to get nice results. Using "Auto colour balance" and "Auto-Stretch" make it easy to see how things are going, and then I save the image as displayed and call it good. It would be awesome if that were possible with the Advanced Save.
Cheers,
Chuck

Re: Advanced saving in live stack is bugged
Hi Chuck,
The extra frame was because the code was waiting until the total exposure had exceeded the threshold rather than being happy when the exposure had met or exceeded the threshold. I will change that but there may still be cases where rounding errors might mean that you get an extra frame before the autosave.
I will also add code to automatically save the image in the 'with adjustments' mode which includes the colour and stretch adjustments made in the live stacking panel. SharpCap is already saving the stack as both 16 and 32-bit fits files so saving an extra PNG version is hardly going to be a problem.
Cheers, Robin

Good to know. Like I noted, not really a big deal, more just a housekeeping thing persnickety folks (who, me?) might notice.
The save with adjustments will be a nice extra.
You rock!
