Problem in 3.2.6086: image stays on after focus assistant close

#1

Post by RazvanUnderStars »

Just tried the new 6086 build (on Windows 10, camera ZWO ASI294 MC Pro) and noticed a problem. I used the Focus Assistant with Bahtinov. Once I closed it, two unexpected things happened:
  • The last image with the Bahtinov pattern stayed on and was not replaced with the image from the camera (it was still connected).
  • I couldn't not clear the FX selection area with which I surrounded the Bahtinov pattern.
I had to restart SharpCap to be able to see the image again.

The relevant part of the log is below, see the warnings.

An update. I repeated the procedure (I'm posting these while out testing) and this time SC behaved normally. Log below for reference. So I cannot say with confidence the previous problem was caused by SC's latest build (I never experienced it before). I'll keep an eye on it.

Hi,

The last couple of entries in your first log seem to indicate that the camera had stopped sending frames to the application which would explain why the image stopped updating and you ended up stuck with the previous image. Now of course it could be that the updated version of SharpCap had something to do with the camera freezing issue, but normally I'd recommend turning down the Turbo USB setting as a potential fix that sort of problem.

Cheers, Robin

I'll try to reproduce it but in the meantime, I'm technically curious, would Turbo USB have any effect on a recent laptop (T470s, i7, USB3)?
Thanks.

Hi,

I think that because there is a potential feature war between manufacturers over frame rates, they all do their very best to get the very highest frame rate possible out of each model of sensor. Some of the tricks they use push the USB system beyond its normal spec. Sometimes this works fine but with other cable or hardware combinations you get problems. That's why you see these performance controls for cameras to allow you to turn the performance up to the highest level that works with your system yet still be sure of being able to get a camera working by turning the performance down if necessary.

Exactly what is going on behind the various Turbo USB/USB speed/performance controls is something that I don't know exactly.

Cheers, Robin
