Hi Alain,

from the log the camera starts up properly and immediately sends an 'Abort' event to SharpCap, which shuts it down again.

Did you use the Vista driver from this page - http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/cpin ... GB&slg=ENG ? I must admit I don't think I ever tested this camera on Vista, but I had it working OK on 7, 8 and 10 with the Win7 driver.

Worth checking with another piece of software - if you get errors with that too then it's very likely driver issues.

cheers,

Robin

Hi

First of all, let me tell you that this product is awesome!!!!

I'm having the same problem. Despite the fact that I have a very old configuration - Dell D610, Windows XP SP3, a very cheap generic webcam - the strange thing is that I have been using Sharpcap in this same configuration with success until yesterday. Suddendly, It stoped to work, giving me the same error message. The version I used was 2.9.3055.0, installed April 6th. I've uninstalled it, and also uninstalled every single application that I have installed after that day; I've cleaned up the registry and removed all drivers and reinstalled without success; I've also updated to 2.9.3085.0, with same result.

Any clues?

I know that my laptop configuration is very old, but it was enough for me, and as I said, it worked perfectly.

I really appreciate any help or clue.

I too am getting the same behavior on two Win 10 laptops that have been Creator updated. Like Pablo, I've tried reinstalling SharpCap.

Trying the latest 2.8, 2.9, and 3.0 installed as Administrator gives me a log entry saying:
Warning: 07:54:32.9803083 Thread:#1 SharpCap.Cameras.NewDirectShow.CaptureProvider.HandleFgNotify() :: Error during preview (0x80070005)
with a pop up window saying "Error during preview (0x80070005)" for three different brands of frame grabber and my installed webcam.

3.0 seems to hang for quite a while (minutes) before the error and display

Everything was running smoothly until yesterday morning.

Oh...as an afterthought... I also tried wxAstroCapture and see the same black display but no error message when I try to connect to my built in webcam.

Same here, everything work Friday 04/28/17, Now on 04/30/17 it is broken

This error first occurred with version 3.0 (Beta). But here the preview window was simply dark, showing no frames being processed on either camera. Like I said both were working on 04/28/17.When preview went dark on Sunday 04/30, I first repaired installation then when that failed, I completely uninstalled 3.0 and installed 2.9.

No Joy,
2.9 gives me error during preview with builtin and logitech Pro 4000. Both cameras worked Friday 4/28 on version 3.0.
Error in window is 0x80070005.

Ok, so it sounds like the Win 10 Creators update has broken things for a lot of people and in other applications too - that's not nice of Microsoft! :( I haven't tried the update yet on any computers, but will try to load it up later on and see what I can see.

That obviously doesn't apply to Pablo with issues on WinXP - my first guess there is to think if you have installed/uninstalled any other software recently that might have updated video codecs that could have upset SharpCap.

Robin,

Thanks for the reply.

My last windows 10 update was April 21, as windows is showing anyways. And I had no preview issues prior to today, April 30. But the last day I ran SnapCap, was April 28.

I did not download the windows creator update, and my windows version is showing 1607, and I believe it would be 1703 if the creator update was installed.

Hope this helps, as this is a strange problem.

Hi Ray,

thanks for the further update - I'm unsure so far what your problem is if you are not on the creator update. I have just tested the creator update and the news is not good - on a fresh Win10 install, before the creator update I got the following webcams to work correctly:

SPC900
MS Lifecam Cinema
Logitech Fusion
USB 2861 Frame Grabber
XBOX 360 Camera
Trust Webcam
USB Endoscope (unbranded)

After upgrading with the creator update, the last 3 failed to work (I managed to get the USB endoscope to work intermittently, but no pattern yet). I get a variety of errors and different failures in SC 2.9 from 3.0.

The cameras that SharpCap is having problems with also show an error in the built-in Windows 10 camera application, but if I 'OK' the error then I get a picture, so somehow that application is working around the problem. Now I've got to work out *how*... This may have to wait for a patch release after SharpCap 3.0 is released, as I plan to release that tomorrow. Let's also hope that whatever I find out and fix for the creator update also helps others who are having webcam issues.

cheers,

Robin

Robin,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I can verify the issue is not solely with the SharpCap program. Windows 10 own built in app cant access the webcam(s) either.

Yes, it's obvious that the Creators update is doing something horrible to webcams. I thought (briefly) that I had a fix as I made some code changes and got the Xbox cam working. Then I switched to a different camera which failed and then when I went back to the Xbox cam that failed too but with a different error!!! :?

So the official state of play at the moment is *not* to try to use the Win 10 Creator's Update for webcams as many do not work - this applies to all versions of SharpCap and to other capture programs too.

I will try to split out this thread so that we don't lose track of those who have problems with other versions of windows.

cheers,

Robin
