The ASI294MC can have troubles with a USB hub, even when it's powered.
I had the same camera and it only worked well with a direct cable connection to my PC. As soon as I used the USB hub (in my case a powered StarTech USB3 hub), it was troubles.
This is one of the reasons Zwo is advising a direct cable. A long active USB3 cable is working in general. I have a 15 meter active USB3 cable and no problems.

Collected some darkS and flats today and captured all of them without an issue after installing the update. I have to wait for decent weather to try and image.
