HOWTO Optimising Camera USB Transfer Rates

#1

Post by turfpit »

This document explains how to systematically go about investigating the USB transfer rates for CMOS cameras with a view to achieving the best possible frames per second without dropped frames. An example is given for each of QHY, ZWO & Altair. There are going to be variances as new camera models appear but the basic principles of investigation remain. The description of a useful trouble shooting tool, USBtreeView, is included which may help when submitting forum posts on this topic. A list of steps is included to guide you through the exercise.

Hopefully the document will be of use to anyone trying to get to grips with the USB settings for their camera(s).

[EDIT] Near the bottom of page 3 the document says
The optimum USB settings for this camera, with the laptop used, are Speed = 1, USB Traffic = 0.
This should read Speed = 2.

Thanks Howie - give the doc a good testing. There are a lot of forum posts which relate to this area and hopefully this doc will save all the fragmented information.
