Camera with LVI Smartguider 2

#1

Post by Fivelpolar »

Hi, this is my first time posting here.
I have the above mentioned camera/guider and wonder if that camera will work with Sharpcap for polar alignment? It is a stand alone guiding package. It's MGA unit has an ST4 guiding output.
It was obviously not listed under supported cameras.
If it is not now supported, will it be added in the near future?
Regards,
Fivel

Hi Fivel,

if the camera has an ASCOM driver then it should work. If it has a DirectShow (webcam) driver then it may work if it lets you set a long enough exposure. You can of course download the free (non-pro) version of SharpCap and test out to see if the camera can be made to work before deciding to buy a Pro license.

cheers,

Thank you for your reply Robin.
I will download and try it for polar alignment.
Since my unit is a stand-alone, it doesn't have drivers to work with ASCOM or other similar apps.
I can only hope the ST-4 connection will work.

Oh! Now I understand - you are talking about a device that is similar to the old Skywatcher SynGuider - I don't think this will work for polar alignment as there is no way for SharpCap to get an image from the device - sorry.
