Debayer GRGB?

#1

Post by Tailspin45 »

SvBoyn says their SV305 (imx290) uses a GRGB color matrix. I can't find a setting or log entry that shows what color filter SC is detecting/using. Lacking that information I thought maybe I could force it using the Debayer Preview, but GRGB is not a choice.

Can someone deconfuse me?

Hi,

I suspect that GRGB is just error on their documentation - in almost all sensors the two green pixels are at opposite corners of the 2 x 2 grid, so you have

GR
BG

or

BG
GR

but not

GR
GB

This is certainly the case for the IMX 290 sensor.

Thanks, Robin, I suspected as much.

Can I just assume, then, that SharfpCap 'knows' the correct matrix?

This all comes up because I'm struggling to get colors right. M42, for example, comes out all green using RGB24 colorspace and saving as FITS16

Have a read of viewtopic.php?f=35&t=254 for some background.

It would be helpful to publish your full workflow from capture through processing, including the camera settings file.

I have read that, thank you.

That said, I know there's a gap in my knowledge (many, really), so I'm basically cookbooking my way through the process. It's not for lacking of reading and studying, but in the immortal words of one of the Three Stooges, "I'm thinkin' but nothing happens!"

I used the Monitor Folder Camera in SharpCap to align and stack saved FITS files and saved the stack as a 32-bit FITS file for processing with StarTools with special attention in the Color module. Of course, I can make it any color I want by playing with the RGB sliders in SharpCap and color bias sliders and the Cap Green filter in StarTools.

But my desire is to make the image look as natural as possible--to see what the camera saw (influenced by light pollution, admittedly).

How I made progress when I ran into this was to select a land based object and image that during the daytime. I chose a view that had a green tree, blue sky and a red brick building. At least when I tried to process that capture, I knew what the result should be.

Ah, good idea. I'll do that!
