Huge AVI size!

Post by fgras78 » Thu Jul 18, 2019 8:42 am

Hello,

I use Sharpcap 3.2 (32 bits) with windows 10 (64) and a Mikrokular HD webcam (Bresser).
The AVI capture files generated are very huge :
example for 200 frames => more than 1.2 Gb !!!

I don't understand if it's a bug with Sharpcar and this camera.
Anybody experienced such thing?

Thanks for your support.
Best regards
Fabrice

Hi,

What resolution does this camera use? The size of the output file in AVI mode should be

Width * Height * Number of Frames * 3 (bytes)

SharpCap does not use compression (deliberately) when writing output files to maintain best image quality, but it does give larger files.

thanks, Robin

hello,

the capture size is 1920x1080.

if I capture in jpeg separated images, it's OK with a total size around 35Mo for the 200 jpeg images.

but for the AVI capture, the generated Avi size is 1.15 GigaOctets...

I tried with my built-in webcam and it's the same bug...

Hi,

Yes, this is how it is supposed to work. When you capture to JPEG the image is compressed to give a smaller file size but the downside of this is that some detail in the images is lost. When saving to video file formats in SharpCap like AVI, there is no compression to ensure maximum image quality.

Cheers, Robin
