You have now done everything I did. I use the camera on a USB2 port and never use it in a USB3 port.

Google zwo asi120 usb3 problems for more info on this (grim reading).

For further grim reading you can try the ZWO forum for this topic.

The bottom line is this camera used a non-standard USB packet size and that is the root of the problem going forward. The Linux capture application developers had this well documented on the ZWO forum.

If you only have USB3 ports on the new machine then consider the reliable ASI120MM-S (USB3 camera) which comes in around £180 (less whatever you can get for the USB2 camera (one went for £120 on AstroBuySell (UK) a few days ago).

Thanks for the info. My new laptop does have a USB2. Looks like I'll be getting the ASI120MM-S.

The price of progress. You do gain because of the higher fps with the USB3 camera which will be beneficial to lunar/planetary imaging.

Out of curiosity can you post a USBtreeView image with the 120MM plugged into your USB2 port on the new laptop. See my post in viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3546 for details.
