ZWO ASI183MM Pro (mono) Temperature not Changing

Hi all! I have a ZWO ASI183MM Pro (mono), and I am finding that the temperature of the sensor is not changing at all while I am using SharpCap.

When I first plug the camera in, I set the Target Temperature to -15. The Cooler Power will automatically adjust itself. An hour later, I will be taking images and I find that the Temperature has not budged from 0. However, the fan has been on the entire time, and I feel the camera heating up. Is this a common problem? Does anyone have any fixes?

Thank you!

Hi,

I'm surprised that the temperature reads zero – I would have expected it to read initially whatever the air temperature around the camera is rather than zero. The only time I've ever seen a ZWO camera readout zero temperature is when it is missing the temperature sensor (I have a prototype 174MC camera that didn't have the temperature sensor in it so it always reads zero).

I'd suggest trying the camera with another piece of software (ASICAP?) to see if it has the same behaviour – if it does then I would be concerned about it being a possible hardware fault. If it works with other software then let me know and we will dig further to try to work out what is going wrong in SharpCap.

cheers,

Robin

PS - you do have the 12 V power supply connected to power the cooling?

Hi Robin,

Thank you for the quick reply! I will try the camera with ASICAP and let you know.
And yes, I keep the camera connected to a 12V power supply while I am using it.

Thanks!

Hi Robin,

Sorry for the late reply. Attached is an image when I use ASICAP. The temperature still reads out zero.

Thank you for your help once again!

Hi,

the only other thing I can suggest from a software point of view is making sure that you are completely up-to-date with ZWO drivers and SharpCap version. If you are up-to-date and are still seeing the problem then I'm thinking that it may be a hardware error – I suggest that you contact ZWO or your reseller for advice as you may need to get the camera repaired or replaced.

Cheers, Robin
