RGB ants marching across images? (ASI294)

#1

Post by cjules »

I keep running into this issue where dotted RGB lines appear across images while live stacking. Using darks doesn't seem to remove them. Using a ZWO ASI294 at 0C. While not always as bad as the example below, almost every session from 2min to 60 shows some form of these lines. Like someone took RGB colored pencils and started doodling.

1. What they heck causes this?
2. How do I prevent it?

Hi,

I've been using the ASI294 with SharpCap for over 1.5 years and have not experienced this nor have I seen this with many friends using the same combo. This may be a camera defect? Few questions to help narrow this down.

1. Does this occur in other applications beside SharpCap? SharpCap Version?
2. Can you share your capture settings, exposure, gain, brightness
3. Color space, 8bit, 16bit, RGB ?
4. Is this live stack, were you using darks, flats?

Yeah, that's weird - I have seen trails caused by hot pixels, but the trails always have the same shape and go in the same direction - I have never seen them in different directions before.

Chris is right that a full description of what settings you are using to generate the image might help us understand possible causes (live stacking or not, camera settings, live stack settings, etc)
