Headbands with force still mode on QHY294m-Pro

#1

Post by dudugaz »

Hi Robin,
After installing my version 4.0.7493 I noticed that my first poses on the QHY294M-pro in 47M mode were not correct at the start of the session. I therefore went back to version 3.2 to do this session. I have just reinstalled the very latest QHY and with installation of the SDKs on the 2 sharpcap versions 3.2 and 4.0 With the camera removed from the scope I have redone tests on version 4.0.7493 in subdued light which now seem correct in 11M mode and in 47M mode, but there is a problem with the 2 modes with the force still mode activated and which does not occur with the force still mode deactivated.
In 47M mode on a reference ROI of 8336x5648 there are 2 black bands of 80 pixels on the left and 26 pixels at the bottom which makes 8256x5622 remaining.
In 11M mode on a ROI reference of 4164x2822 there are also 2 bands of 36 pixels on the left and 28 pixels on the top which makes 4158x2794 remaining.

Hi,

this is todo with the overscan area of the chip - I thought I had some code from QHY to disable this, but it's not working (I see the bands on my 294CPro too). Right now I don't know what the fix is, so I will talk to QHY to ask their advice.

thanks,

Robin

Hi Robin,
Thank you, in fact it is indeed a real shift because if we compare the darks made with this mode and the darks made with the force still mode disabled, we can see it.
So while waiting for the solution, it remains to be done as before with the known inconvenience, in particular on long exposures.

Hi,

after further investigation I can get rid of the bars top/left, but the incorrect data at the bottom and right remain - I could get rid of those by requesting a smaller frame size, but I cannot find a way yet to get the correct frame size from the SDK...

cheers,

Hi Robin,
I'm not sure the drivers for the QHY294M / C-Pro are quite right. I tried this morning with EZCap and Nina and in 47M the results in terms of image size are heterogeneous and the hot spots are also shifted by more or less pixels.
I am at your disposal for any useful test to advance the subject.

Hi,

what image size do you get in 11M mode (still capture) in those applications?

With my 294CPro I get 4164x2822 in video mode (image is fine)

I now get 4164x2794 in still mode (or force still mode) - the top left of the image is fine, but rubbish data along the bottom/right borders (about 14-16 pixels each). If I could work out a way to get the reduced size without the rubbish from the SDK (somewhere like 4150x2780) I would be happy.

Hi Robin,
I did the tests again this morning in 11M as requested and in 47M again with Nina and EZCAP.
In 11M
With Nina 4164x2795 and no borders with overscan on OFF.
With EZCAP 4212x2850 and borders with Overscan and 4164x2795 and no borders without Overscan
In 47M
With Nina 8336x5622 and no borders with overscan on OFF.
With EZcap 8432x5648 and borders with Overscan and 8336x5622 and no borders without Overscan.

At your service for other tests

Hi,

that's odd. The values are the same as the ones I get (I just round the height down to make it even as there are various things that get more complex with odd frame sizes).

When I put out next Monday's update it should give you 4164x2794 and 8336x5622 - it will be interesting to see if you get borders bottom and right - I do on my colour camera, but maybe not on the Mono?

thanks,

OK Robin,

I will retest Monday with the new version.
I am not a specialist in the matter but why there is specific management of the overscan in EZCap and NINA and not in Sharpcap. But it seems to me that the Overscan subject has already been mentioned elsewhere.

Hi,

until last week I didn't have a QHY camera that supported overscan, so I couldn't even think of putting in support for it. Even now my feeling is that this is something that should be hidden from the user - in 99.99% of cases you don't want it and if you have it then there is a problem with processing.

cheers,

Robin
