Hi,

so the output will still be 8-bit unfortunately – basically the image will just be four times brighter (allowing you to either turn down the exposure or turn down the gain).

I have a new version of the SDK from qhy which seems to give correct colour binning in the RGB 24 mode. That will be included in the SharpCap 3.3 update that I hope to put online on Monday.

Cheers, Robin

Well.. we cannot have everything!
10bit or 8bit is a great result anyway. Thanks a lot to you and Qhy for have accepted my request!!
Color in bin2x is real!!

Have a good day!

I have tried to take two frame in RBG24, one in bin1x and one bin2x with the same gain and exposure. Every both frames appear with the same brightness. What I wrong?
(I have re-saved bin1.jpg agree with max 1Mb file)

Thank you
Antonio

Hi,

it looks like QHY have taken an averaging binning approach – that means that the image doesn't get brighter but the noise level reduces instead when the binning is applied. You can see this more clearly if you turn the gain up to maximum, turn the exposure down to give a properly exposed image again and then switch between 1x1 and 2x2 binning - there is clearly a lot more noise when you are 1x1 binning.

The actual improvement in image quality is the same either way – by moving to 2x2 binning you get an increase of 2x in signal-to-noise ratio whether the binning is done by adding pixel values or averaging them.

Cheers, Robin

Clouds are gone last night!
This is the result how work your job about bin2!
662x2" - gain 35 - offset 107 - zwo duoband filter - refractor ED70/420 reduced at F/4.56

Impressive low noise at that gain! Thank you again Robin!

Hi,
the same works in version 4 (3,3) - QHY5III462C.
Thanks to all
