QHY5III178C and color binning - update [SOLVED]

#1

Post by Antonio »

Hi,

I am Antonio and I am sorry for my poor english..
I write here directly because I haven't find a "wellcome area".

I am an SC-PRO happy user, thank you for this software!

Now, about the object, I have search and read all old messages about color binning with this camera (now is in gray scale), so I have ask directly to QHY if they can do something to keep color information in binning mode.. Their answer is that they'll contact Sharpcap author with a new SDK (when they will are ready but is already on work on it).

May I ask to use this post for the updates?

Thank you and I hope you understand my english.. :D

Hi Antonio,

yes, QHY contacted me about this maybe one to two weeks ago. I haven't seen any signs of this update in the new SDK yet though. Maybe they are still working on it.

Cheers, Robin

Hi,

I found a new SDK from QHY today which I will put into a SharpCap 3.3 update for next week - it doesn't mention anything about colour binning in the change log for it, but you never know...

Update....

I just tested the new SDK, and with my 178C I can select 2x binning in RGB24 mode (which is where colour binning is supposed to happen). I get a colour image of some sort, but it's corrupted in some way - it looks like there has been some work on this, but not working properly yet.

Hi, I have quickly tried sc 3.3 beta about color binning and I have seen that resolution in bin2x in rbg mode is the same than bin 1x. The output of preview should seam correct (half dimension at the same % of zoom)
It is normal? There are something that I can test?

Thank you!

Hi,

the capture area setting does not change when you select binning for QHY cameras, but the saved output file will have half the size in each direction.

cheers,

Hello,
I have a question: are we anyway limited to 8bit of depth in bin2x?
I have understood from Qhy that bin2x should be something like around 10bit. It would be sad lost 2bit.
Some hope or trick?
(Sorry if my question are absurdes, I am not a tecnician but I am curious!)
