Canon EOS 2000D (Rebel T7) and SharpCap

Hello, I'm interested in using a new 2000D with SharpCap for polar alignment and also live stacking.

In my preliminary testing I wasn't able to get things working properly. I wonder if you have a step by step guide for doing something like this, or if there's been any testing with the 2000D for compatibility? I know a few packages don't yet support it due to the raw libs not supporting it yet.

Thanks for any guidance,
Jeff in Texas

Hi,

Canon DSLR cameras (or for that matter any other sort of DSLR) are not directly supported in SharpCap. There are a couple of workarounds that people have developed –

1) there is an Ascom driver for Canon DSLRs that is open source that sort of works for some people I briefly had it working but didn't find it to be very reliable.

2) you can use another application to capture images from the DSLR and save them to a folder and then use the folder monitor camera in SharpCap to automatically pull in those saved images as though SharpCap had captured them (JPEG only currently, not raw)

Cheers, Robin

Thanks Robin, perhaps I'll try via the JPG into a folder thing...see how it goes.

Best,

Hi,

Just to let people know that SharpCap 3.3, which supports a still camera mode where it only takes images when you press a button rather than taking images continuously is now available for testing in an invite only alpha test group. This still camera mode feature would probably be very useful to those using the SLRs, so if anyone is interested in joining the alpha test group please let me know.

Cheers, Robin

@FearL0rd - done - you now have access to the alpha testers forum (and thanks for your work on the DSLR Ascom driver!)

@cuivenion - see this thread for links viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2835&p=14810#p14810
