camera linearity and brain/smart histogram

For the smart histogram and other calculations are you taking into account any non-linearity (anti blooming) in the camera?

From the plots and tables of data it looks like you have a single e/ADU for each gain value.

Hi,

short answer : No...

long answer :

Smart Histogram/Brain is about optimizing the exposure/gain choice to give best signal-to-noise ratio for faint signals, so the linearity of the camera sensor as it approaches full well isn't very important as the stuff of interest is always at the other end of the range. From some reports I've had from users who *have* measured this sort of thing, the non-linearity is only noticable above about 90% full well (or even 95% for many cameras).

cheers,

Robin
