Main histogram color lines

My red, green and blue lines in the main histogram rarely peak together and don't move when I adjust the sliders. I know I can see the color adjustments on the mini histogram. Is there something I should be doing to get them to align in the main histogram first?
If not, then when I adjust the black point in the main histogram, I should use the white line, correct (I've been told to bring the black point to the start of the main peak)?
