hello

it does not work but I can not even send you the images since the "Sharpcap Captures" folder is empty
I understood that Sharpcap take a snapshot when plate solving
does it save it ?
Bye

Alberto,

I use SC 3.1, so your experience may vary, but I don't believe that SC stores the Plate Solve image in the conventional capture folder location. I suggest the following while debugging: After an unsuccessful Plate Solve, capture a single light frame by clicking the button on the toolbar.

Hello

I tried gain but I still failed
I aligned my AZ GTi mount with the North Level method
I pointed to Alpheratz with Stellarium ( see pic)
I plate solved , sigma = 30 ,(see Log file)

Thanks in advance for your support

bye

Hi Brian

actually the angle between Alpharetz and HD212212 is higher than 15°
so I am dojng something wrong with my mount
even though the orientation is not accurate, I used a compass, the "North level" method should not cause a so big error

Hello Alberto,
I am following this discussion with interest. Im not sure i can be much help at this stage but i would like some clarification on your set-up.

In your messages it sounds like you are using the SynScan controller and Stellarium/ASCOMdriver ? When you have done an initial 1-star alignment with SynScan, do you then switch it to PC Direct Mode so that you can connect and control with Stellarum and SC-plate solve ? Provided the mount has some sort of RA/DEC sync, then plate solve should work, even if its more than 15 degrees away.

My other observation (FWIW) is that you observe from a balcony. It is possible that metal nearby is effecting you compass reading when doing the North bit ? (Sorry if that is a silly question).

All the best - Tim.

Hi Alberto,

yes, the problem is likely how far away the image is from where the mount thinks it is pointing. I tested with the above image, Astrotortilla (sigma=50) and setting the 'Telescope Simulator' mount to point to RA=22h, Dec=+40 and the plate solve + sync function worked very quickly.

cheers,

Hi Tim

I am happy to see that at least my post is of some interest :)

I use synscan app for windows 10 so I work on PC only
my procedure is :
1) From the synscan menu I select "North and level " method and two stars ,possibly not too close each other
2) the scope slews to the first star, the error should be of just a few degrees
3)To be sure , I eyeball the orientation of my scope and the Az/Alt of the first star on Stellarium (no scope finder)
4) same for the second star
5) I select a third star from stellarium, if possible between the previous two stars
6) the scope slews to this star
7) I plate solve and ...failure

I use a compass from my window but the orientation of the pointer is consistent with the position of the sun at dawn

ciao

Hello Robin

thanks for your support

As I said to Tim I eyeball the orientation of my scope
even though AZGti is an economic mount it should be reasonably accurate as far as I read on the web
In case of software/mechanical issues , erros should be evident even at an eyeball control
maybe cumulated errors exceed 15°
I have also an AZ EQ 5 , I will try again
Besides that
I used the previously attached snapshot file as an imput to All sky Plate Solver
I was expecting the RA/Dec of my telescope as return
but no answer...it failed
Should I install Astrotortilla , instead ?

Bye
