Framerate

#1

Post by AstroKHM »

Good morning everyone.
I have a question, and I hope I have a good answer.
I use SharpCap for planets with the Asi290mc. When I have done all the settings, therefore also the gain and the exposure time, and I have a framerate of 30 fps, I switch to the ROI. In theory the framerate should increase, but it remains the same. Is that right or am I wrong something? Thanks to those who answer me.

Hi,

some things to consider

1) Typically only the height of the ROI affects frame rate, so if you change from 1920x1080 to 960x1080, the frame rate will not increase

2) Frame rate is limited by exposure time, so at 40ms exposures, you cannot get a frame rate above 25fps, since you can only fit 25 * 40ms exposures into one second. If your exposure is about 30ms then you will not go much above 30fps.

3) There has been a report here recently that the latest ZWO SDK update seems to have problems delivering high FPS on ROI both in SharpCap and ASICap - at least on the 183MM - see this thread : viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4347&p=23376

cheers,

Robin
