Dithering in non-live stacking mode

#1

Post by umasscrew39 »

I thought this was discussed here before but I cannot seem to find it. Dithering when not live stacking is currently not possible unless I missed the update. However, I thought there was a work around for that (?????) and that an updated versions of SC would add this feature. Is that correct or am I hallucinating again?

Work around that I know of is to change the "view" selection from stack to individual frame....this will display the last frame only and make it the same as non live stack mode. Or you could have it set to "save and reset" every 1 frame which might stop it from doing the math to stack and save some computer power.

I'd missed that post too. Thanks for the pointer.

Hi Robin

Will there be a more direct/simple way to dither when just collecting individual frames in an upcoming version?

I tried the workaround and could not get it to work. I went into live stacking and unchecked alignment to turn it off. You say to then, turn on the option to save individual frames and change the options so that you view the individual frames instead of the stack (????). I don't understand this.

So, I am back to saving individual frames and guiding but not dithering or I save stacks of stacks in live viewing with dithering.

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

See the image below for the correct settings to use this trick. I certainly intend to have more direct support for this in the future – probably as part of the sequencing tool that I am constructing for the next version.

ok- thanks for the visual and good to hear this will be part of the sequencer you are planning.

Follow-up: I tried this last night. It worked but I get PNG files under the raw frames, not FITS, despite selecting FITS as my output file. So I am still doing something wrong.

Hi,

You need to change the preferred still file format in the first page of the settings to fits – this will cause the raw frames to be saved in fits format rather than PNG.

Hi Robin

I must be having a serious brain cramp. I do not know what you mean by "first page of the settings". I changed from PNG to FITS in the Capture Format and Area section. I am not aware where else to change this.

Best,

Bruce
