Plate Solving Issues

#1

Post by RMSQueenMary »

When I try to do plate solving, SharpCap does not auto detect AstroTortilla.

I have SharpCap detecting the mount.

I installed AstroTortilla into the default directory in Windows 10. It is Program Files x86.

I even uninstalled and reinstalled AstroTortilla.

I have ran AstroTortilla with no problems.

Why does SharpCap not autodetect AstroTortilla? What can I do get it to autodetect, so I can plate solve.

Hi,

SharpCap expects to find an entry in the registry at

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AstroTortilla\CygwinRoot
That contains the path to the root of the Cygwin directory. SharpCap will then append 'bin\solve-field' to this to try to find the plates solving application. If this doesn't work then you will need to find the 'solve-field' application manually inside the Astro Tortilla installation and tell SharpCap where that application is in the plate solving settings page.

I wonder if you can plate solve with SharpCap without Internet connection.

Hi,

Yes, absolutely – once you've installed the plate solving application and all its data files, there should be no need for an Internet connection.

Thank you. I could use it out in the field or at an outreach. 8-)

I don't even see Platesolving in my licensed version of SC 3.0 I followed this tutorial but it led nowhere in my case Plate Solving does appear in the latest download of SC.

Hi,

The latest version of SharpCap is actually version 3.2. Version 3.0 didn't have the plates solving functionality and is no longer being updated. Please go to the downloads page on the SharpCap website to download and install the very latest update for SharpCap 3.2. Note that you can keep your SharpCap 3.0 installed as well as having the newer SharpCap 3.2 installed and switch backwards and forwards between them without any problems.
