PS Dave: I have put a paper reminder on my scope to click on HIGHLIGHT DETECTED STARS. Not only if I have trouble stacking m-44 (it too has a good number of stars) but if I find SharpCap will stack one star, like it did several knights ago, or even more unbelievable no stars at all. If it stacks with the tube cover put on we will certainly want to know what made that possible. Carl

Dave thanks for the attention you have put into my problem.
Went out about a week ago and things worked as they should. However the artifact (I can't call it a hot pixel) shows up as before. But it is fainter and looks scattered as it did in its early Life. Looking at pictures with and without dark frames applied tells me that my last stacking was done when the artifact was not very, very condensed making a series of repeated bright square blocks of ( what I estimate to be) 4 pixels.

More observing time is needed. I'm glad ZWO provides a two year warranty on my camera. It looks like it's going to take a lot of that time to prove it has a problem.

I made 3 dark frames that night. One is pure dark black or blue. The other two have still many bright pixels (about 20) in the bottom one quarter of the frame. The one exception is what I would expect to see every time.

I'm going to re-read the SharpCap manual in order to better understand color. I have not seen the first evidence of it (other than the diffraction pattern seen when using the Bahtinov Mask with MONO8) since I got started this winter. I wish I could benefit from what was written here about SharpCap

https://www.highpointscientific.com/ima ... ve-barrett

but the writer (another Dave) seems to be referring to an old version of SharpCap because when I use the practice provided DEEP SKY CAMERA I don't see any sliders for red and blue colors provided.

Notice this writer infers that Fits Liberator is not basically needed-----MONO 8, and hit SAVE AS. Things must have been Nice, once. Carl
