Sharpcap 2.9 for XP will not install!

#1

Post by emflocater »

Hi Folks. I am having an issue installing the latest 2.9 version of Sharpcap to Windows XP. I can download the version to my computer but every time I double click it to install, a box comes up saying " Sharpcap has encountered a problem and must close". I have tried several times by downloading again from Sharpcap but same results when I try to install it. Anyone have this problem? I have Windows Framework for XP. I even use Cartes du Ciel which runs fine. Am I missing something here. I have XP Sp3 with a 1.2gb Intel processor and 1 gb of ram. All other programs and software run fine...just can't get Sharpcap to install. I am able to install it on my other XP laptop but it will not install on this XP laptop I want to use. I am pretty computer literate and am a loss on what to try. I ran as Admin. and same problem. Doesn't make any sense. I tried to install an earlier version and same thing . Any thoughts? I know my laptop only has 1 gb of ram but shouldn't Sharpcap 2.9 at least install?

Cheers

UPDATE: So I tried something else and it looked promising but NOPE! What I did was install Sharpcap 2.9 on my other XP machine. No problem there. So I copied the Sharpcap INSTALL files onto another XP Laptop. That is the laptop I want to mess with and that is the laptop that would not Install Sharpcap 2.9
*
So I copied those files onto a flashdrive and then pasted them to the desktop of the XP laptop I want to use. I opened the file to see the contents. I clicked on the Sharpcap "round globe" icon. Wawla...Sharpcap opened up. Great! ...not yet...so I also prior installed the drivers for the camera I want to use. Its a Phillips Spc 900. So getting back to Sharpcap, I go to the top and click cameras. Yep Sharpcap found my Phillips camera. Now I click that camera to start in Sharpcap. The camera light starts so I know the camera has connected then a box again comes up saying Sharpcap has encountered a problem and must close. I went to look at the problem by clicking a link in that box. The darn thing was 12+ pages long with info that a computer forensic specialist would be needed to decipher. That I am not. So here I am hoping someone can help figure this out.

Don

You need to attach the log file to a reply, see here https://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/2.9/#Bugs%20%26%20Crashes then Robin can look at it. He is at an Astronomy Show and will not be around until Sunday.

Strange...was able to install FireCapture no problem and FireCapture found and activated my Phillips Spc900NC Webcam with no issues. Can't figure why Sharpcap 2.9 or earlier (2.8) will not even install. At first I thought something with my computer but I have everything on my comp to allow the Sharpcap install but no luck yet.

Hi Don,

I wonder if you don't have an up-to-date version (or any version) of the .NET framework on your machine that is having issues? SharpCap will try to install it for you if it is missing, but it can't do that if there is no network connection.

Try the installer from Microsoft at this link - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=17718 - and then re-try installing SharpCap.

cheers,

If this means you just copied a folder from one machine to another, that is not a proper installation? Firecapture seems to work ok as an expanded but this is not extensively tested.

Thanks Dave I kind of figured that. I still can't install Sharpcap 2.9. As stated my laptop has the latest Net. 4 Frame work standalone for Xp. Also I have the latest for XP Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. No luck what so ever installing. I did install Firecapture 2.3 and have taken several 60 second test videos with no issues. A few glitches with FC 2.3 that cause it to close when I only select Venus and Jupiter as a profile but that's about it, but Sharpcap 2.9.....won't budge to allow me to install. :(

Hi Don,

when you fail to install, there ought to be some log files saved into the temporary (%TMP%) directory. The best way to find them is to find the temp directory, delete everything you can, then try to install and you should be able to spot the log files created. If you can post those here we will have a better chance of telling you why the install is failing.

The log files you are looking for will be in the temp directory and names SharpCap<something>.log
