planetary images- best format

Is there any advantage to capturing an AVI file versus multiple still frames?
Other than a FITs file, which format best preserves detail?

thanks

Hi,

AVI/SER offer much faster write rates (no compression, simple format, single file) so are preferred for lunar/solar/planetary.

Unless you have a true reason to require AVI format, I would *always* recommend SER output for this type of imaging as there are far fewer issues with compatibility with the simpler SER format.
