Hi,

does it fail to install, or fail to run once installed? I just tested 2.9.3086 on a Windows XP machine and it installed fine and ran afterwards, so it should be possible to make it work. It probably needs to be connected to the internet during install as it may need to download and install some Microsoft components (.NET Framework 4 and the Microsoft C++ redistributable package for Visual Studio 2013).

cheers,

Robin

thanks for your reply. The files download ok to my download file. They do not open or run from the download file. Any suggestions?

Hmm,

some things to think about

* make sure you are on XP sp3 and update if not - I don't think it will run on earlier service packs
* are you up to date - allow windows update to run through and install any missing updates in case some update is needed
* could anti-virus be messing things up? Try disabling anti-virus temporarily
* does anything get saved to log in the temp folder? Look for log files created in

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Local Settings\Temp
when you run the installer and if any are created then post them here. A good thing to do is to try to delete everything in the temp folder before running as it makes it easier to spot new files!

cheers,

Robin

Robin, thanks for sticking with me on this.

I am running XP sp3.
There is no antivirus running.
I found these log files in the temp folder;
jusched.log
JavaDeployReg.log

Just to clarify, I have downloaded 2.9.2915,3086 & 2709 to my download folder. Each download is interrupted with the "I am not a robot" request. Could that interruption corrupt the downloaded file? Nothing happens when I click on these downloaded files.

I would like to use SharpCap on my Lenovo laptop to capture analog and digital astro video and pics.
I hope you can get me going with this.

Thanks Warren

Hi Warren,

if you have the files in your download folder and they are about 25-26 megabytes in size then you have downloaded them correctly. The only thing left to do should be to double click (not just single click) on one of the installer files to run it and install the program. The log files that you fould in the temp folder are related to java updates and aren't anything to do with installing SharpCap I'm afraid.

If you are still stuck then include a screenshot showing the downloaded files if you can and I will see if anything looks wrong.

cheers,

Robin

Hi Robin,
29.3086.0 is 25.1mb.
Double clicking does not open the downloaded .exe or ms dos files.

I have tried to drop screenshots but the forum says they are too big to post. So I will try to figure out how to make them smaller.
Also, the "insert image" button on the top of this page puts this "Image" into the post. How would I use that button to insert screenshots from my drive?

Thank you, Warren

Hi,

to reduce image size, open the image in Paint and then save it as a JPEG file, which should be much smaller.

Use the Attachments tab (below the message you are writing) to add attachments to the post. The image button above is to link to images on other web sites.

The screenshots that are saved as jpg, are >3mb, the iphone photos are bmp at 2.9mb. At this juncture, I don't know how to shrink these screenshots so the SC forum will allow them. So this looks like a dead end.
