odd number of subframes

Post by Steph37 »

I use Capture/ Capture Dark in Sharpcap, and I wonder whether an odd number of subframes is a better choice than an even number. Thanks !

Hi,

no real difference for even/odd number, but more is always better than less (except for your patience). The noise level drops as the square root of the number of frames used, so it halves after 4 frames, is divided by 4 after 16 frames and by 10 after 100 frames. This means that while every additional frame does make an improvement, the improvement gets smaller - the 2nd frame makes more of an improvement than the 10th, which does more for you than the 100th, etc.

cheers,

Robin
