Hi!

First of all. Ty for a great software!
Although I diped my toes in AP some years ago. Im back on it again. But I feel as beginner with all new equipment, software ect. :D

To learn more about my camera and the software settings. I did a sensor analysis on the camera.(great feature) But I can not figure out where unity gain is. Looks like very linear curves on gain ect. I will/are using it on my Edge c8 with hyperstar, at the moment. (capturing everything I can, to learn) But will also us it for planetary ect at full focal length. 178 is more planetary oriented, I think. But for now, Im having fun with it!
Supplied are some screen snapshots from my phone.

Hoping for comet hunting tonight! :)

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

I don't think the sensor actually has a unity gain – for all gain values the e/ADU is less than one. This is also shown on the graph that ZWO have for their version of the camera which you can find on this page - https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/pr ... 78mc-color

Personally, am strongly of the opinion that unity gain is not really a very helpful concept – the fact that one electron leads to a signal increase of exactly one ADU doesn't really mean very much when the read noise is almost always larger than 1 ADU at all gains and the shot noise once you have a significant number of electrons is even larger.

Anyway, none of that is really important if you're enjoying using the camera and getting good results out of it – like with the comet hunting!

Cheers, Robin

Thank you for your reply!

I have tested the recommended/calculated settings with the measurements of skybrightnes. It gives you good direktions on what settings you should be at. Another great feature! (did go for dynamic range option on the selection box. for preferred settings)

p.s
in my mind, Sharpcap PRO fee, should be higher. :)
