Exposure limits?

#1

Post by jwcarr252 »

When I set my SharpCap Pro to anything over a 3 second exposure, it only does about 1.5 seconds. Is there somewhere else that limits the exposure time?

Hi,

what camera are you using? And what exact version of SharpCap?

Wow, I haven't heard anyone mentioning iNova cameras for quite a while!

The only model I have to test with is the PLB-Cx, which is CMOS not CCD and runs nicely in longer exposures (I just tested out to 10s with no problems).

Does your camera show a Pixel Clock and Horizontal Blank control? Does adjusting those (particularly the pixel clock) make any difference?

I can get longer exposures using their PlxCapture software, but it doesn’t hold a candle next to SharpCap.

Hi,

I have just tested again and I find that I can get the same sort of issue to occur if I put my camera into 'RAW16 (LX)' mode in the colour spaces option. If I put it into 'RAW8' or 'RAW16' then I don't see the problem – does the same happen for you?

Unfortunately, it happens in all three settings (8, 16 & 16 LX).

Ok,

I've just looked over the code that sets the exposure for iNova cameras again, and it looks like in some places it's only suitable for use with CMOS cameras. Now the problem I have is that I don't have a CCD camera to test it with or any precise documentation about how it should work for CCD cameras, but I've taken an educated guess at how it might be updated for CCD cameras and will put that into the next update of SharpCap 3.2. I'll also put in some additional logging code so that we can get further diagnostics out if there are still problems.

Cheers, Robin

I greatly appreciate the help, Robin. Hoping I’m not the only iNova user left out here.
