Hello,
I don't know if it is a bug or not.
With the very last version :
SharCap Speed test is saying 400MB/S speed and complete the test in 12 or 13s up to 3000x2000.
But when doing a capture, the fps drop down and the flush of the frame into the memory buffer takes a lot of minutes to write the data on the disk :
For example with my Asi 071, at full resolution, I have a display fps around 9 but it goes down to 0.4 when writing.
If I reduce the resolution and put a framesize close to 3000x2000 for example, it is very slow as well (2 or 3 fps when writing)
Windows Task manager displays a write speed around 25 or 30MB/S.
Disk space (40% available, 80Gb on a 256Gb SDD)
Bench of my disk with an external tool say 500MB/S
My disk is not encrypted.
I am using Windows 10 on a surface Pro 2.
I checked sharcap memory buffer, 32 bit or 64 bit version. No luck. This trouble arrived since 5 or 6 month.
I though is was a disk issue I am not sure now. May be system.
But if sharpcap speed test is releveant I don't understand what's happen after.
The only conclusion I am doing is that there is a difference between the "write" behaviour in speed test and during a capture.
But it doesn't help me
Any idea/help would be appreciated.
Cyrille

Re: Writing speed issue
Hi,
What file format are you trying to save to? For high-speed capturing you must use the SER file format to get maximum performance. Saving to AVI may be a bit slower and saving to still imaging formats like PNG or FITS will be much slower than the maximum speed of cheaper video formats.
The figures you're quoting do sound a bit like you are using one of the still file formats in which case the results are pretty much as expected.
Cheers, Robin

Re: Writing speed issue
Hello Robin,
I am using SER file .
I do capture with an ASI 071, full moon with a 1400mm refractor.
When Sharpcap fill the memory buffer, the speed is at 9-10 fps. But once it starts to write it goes down to 1fps after few seconds then it start to miss most of the frame.
Let me know if you need more information or test from my side.
Cheers,
Cyrille
