camera problems

Post by waterboy »

Okay I am going to show myself right off the bat. I am brand new to all this. I just got in a new Svbony sv205 camera today. I have been trying to get it to work but it won't. Sharpcap acknowledges that it is there and I get a fuzzy image but I cannot get it to focus in on anything. Please help a beginner!

Hi,

So I have just added direct support for some SVBony cameras to SharpCap – I have a prototype of the SV305 here and I have that working nicely. What I don't know is if the code that SVBony have sent me will also work with older models like the 105 and the 205.

If you want to try it out can download a prerelease version from this link

https://d.sharpcap.co.uk/download.html? ... 3.2.6074.0

My SV305 camera appears in device manager as a 'CK USB 2.0 Camera (0.36-10M Colour)' and appears in SharpCap as 'SVBONY SV305'

It will be very interesting to find out whether the older models of camera will also work this way or whether this will only work for the newer model.

Anyway, back to your real question which was how to get focus. If you have tried looking at a distant object like a roof or tree and still can't get a sharp image after trying the whole range of focus on your telescope then it may be that the camera is either too close or too far out in its mounting on the focuser. Being too close is easier to fix – you can just try initially by not pushing it all the way home and then later by an extended tube. Being too far out in the harder as it may be difficult to arrange for the camera to move closer to the lens/mirror of the telescope.

Cheers, Robin

For other's benefit, I had trouble getting the SV305 to focus because the tube on the front is too long with a filter attached.

The tube is C-mount on the camera end and regular 1.25" filter thread on the other.

I bought a 1/2" barrel adapter for $10 including shipping and solved the problem.
