Mount connection and platesolve issue

#1

Post by wargrafix »

Hi all, I am trying to get platesolving to work. I successfully installed astrotortilla andnsharpcap sees the install.

My gear is:
Orion atlas pro
Celestron 9.25 sct.@ f6.3
Celestron autoguider.
2 asi 224mc cameras.

Connect using shoestring cable
Use starry night 6 for mount control and planetarium.
PhD 2.6.6 for autoguiding
Sharpcap latest release.

Sn6 and PhD 2 connect to the mount successful.

However sharpcap cannot connect . It gives a port error. Even though it's the same port and connection ascom uses to connect with the other programs. Please help me

Hi,

In order to be much help will need to see the full text of any error that you are getting. Please post either a screenshot of the problem or the SharpCap log contents after the problem has happened.

Cheers, Robin

Where are the logs stored?

In the hardware tab of sharpcap settings, to select mount, and I browse to the ascom profile of my mount and when I hit apply, the eqdirect window displays the message "com port not found"

Wait, if the sharpcap program can see the astrotortilla installation, do I still need to sharpcap to actively connect to my mount for platesolve?

On my installation, the SharpCap logs are in:

C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\SharpCap\logs

Replace David with your login name.

Quickest way to the log. Click help at top of SharpCap screen and select "Show Log". At the right bottom of this window is "Copy To Clipboard" button. Once copied past into a blank text file and attach this text file to your post.

Solved the problem. Run as administrator

Hi,

I think I've encountered this issue before – the reason you need to run SharpCap as administrator is that one of the things that SharpCap needs to talk to is already running as administrator. This might be the mount controller application or some other piece of software. Windows prevents non-administrator applications from sending messages or communicating with administrator applications, which causes the problem you see.

The ideal solution here would be to stop the other program from running as administrator, but running SharpCap as an administrator is a reasonable workaround.

Cheers, Robin
