Camera image settings.

#1

Post by Neil »

Hi,

I have the ASI178MM camera, I would like to know if there are any preferred default settings for the image controls (gamma, brightness, contrast).

The reason for asking is that it is hard to make judgements when you alter these settings when the exposures are long, a lot of time can be wasted. I would prefer to just be able to "set and leave alone".

Cheers,

Neil.

I'd suggest confining your adjustments to

*Exposure
*Gain
*Offset (Sometimes black level or even brightness on other manufacturer cameras)

These are the primary controls that affect the way the digital image gets created from the light captured by the sensor. All the other controls like gamma, contrast, etc tend to be done by digital processing , so you could make the same changes yourself after stacking with considerably more control and the ability to tweak and retweak.

Good background reading here http://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/2.9/#Common% ... 20Controls on what the controls do and here http://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/2.9/#The%20Histogram on how to adjust to get a good histogram shape.

cheers,

Robin
