Working with windows10 the laptop webcam defaults to AVI files. However, using the Orion Starshoot camera for planetary imaging it defaults to SER files. These appear to be sound file. Is there anyway they can be opened or converted to AVI file type, or better still set up at the start to avi.
The properties indication is set to save as AVi file.

Re: SER Files
SER format is considered, by experienced imagers, to be the better option for lunar/planetary capture.
SER can be converted to AVI using PIPP https://sites.google.com/site/astropipp/
In SharpCap, from File > Sharpcap Settings, the default Preferred Video Format can be changed.
Might be worth reading the comments by cgarry (author of PIPP) in https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/573161-ser-or-avi/ regarding SER v AVI.

Re: SER Files
Also note that Avi format is incompatible with high bit depth images (bit depth > 8 bits), meaning that for some camera settings, SER is the only workable video capture format - see https://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/2.9/#Captur ... 0Explained for more details.
