Livestack annotation / astrometry

#1

Post by clouzot »

Now that Sharpcap works seamlessly with ASTAP (and boy is it faster than the usual astrometry.net solver), I thought about a pretty cool feature: the ability for SC to ask ASTAP to (deep sky) annotate the livestack. That would allow the EAA observer to immediately get an idea of what is in the camera field, including all those faint fuzzies that can be seen everywhere in the Virgo surroundings.
The same could be done for astrometry (star magnitude and the such).

At the moment, I do that by saving the stack as a FITS, clicking on the info bar when SC is done to directly open the file in ASTAP (it being associated with FITS files), platesolving and choosing either the deep-sky or Hyperleda annotation.

It'd probably need some changes ASTAP-side as well, though.

I think that would be a good feature too.

That would be a nice addition for live astronomy.

+1. This is a great idea, except that I don't see any need to restrict this to live stacking. Any time a plate solve is performed, if the user has Annotations turned on, they should see an annotated overlay.
