Could you add full plate solving to SC?

I've been using All Sky though SC for a while with no trouble but I've noticed a lot of people starting out hold off on plate solving for a while because it's one more thing you have to set up/trouble shoot. Plate solving was one of the best things I set up as it made getting on target way faster.

Being as you already have the polar alignment plate solve down, could you add plate solving for the entire sky built in to SC?

Hi,

The code I use plate solving for polar alignment is a isn't robust enough to deal with full plate solving – for polar alignment it only has to work on a tiny fraction of the total area of the sky so the chances of false positives are much reduced. If you try to work with the full sky first of all you would need a dataset for the star database that was nearly a thousand times bigger and secondly you would need a more sophisticated algorithm to be able to avoid false positives. Programs like ASPS have already solved this problem, so there isn't much mileage in solving it again.

Cheers, Robin
