Brain function - User constraints

Hi Robin
I have started using the brain function to calculate the optimum exposure gain brightness/black level. However I have a large library of Darks + other calibration frames for bias, etc that I use and the issue with the brain function is that it proposes basically new exposure times, gain settings and brightness/black level every time so you would effectively always be shooting calibration frames.

I usually hit apply then change the figures to the nearest I have for exposure / gain, would it be possible to have the ability to teach Sharpcap the extent of this library or step parameters you want to use and then get it to chose the nearest match to what it is calculating to avoid this. you could even display both values as this would give an indication as to whether it would be beneficial to create extra calibration frames at a certain exposure / gain.

The reason for this is that last night for the first L frames I just hit apply and then altered the values for exposure / gain as normal and then for RGB I just typed the settings in with out hitting apply and this has caused a few issues as the brain function would appear to set brightness / black level to 100 at some point in its calculations and as this tab was closed on my display I did not realise subsequently my calibration frames are not working.

Cheers
Nick

Hi,

I'm afraid that sounds like a fairly specialised request that would be only of interest to a small number of SharpCap users. Normally I prioritise feature requests and ideas there seem likely to be of interest to the wide range of SharpCap users and suggest that ideas like this can be best implemented using the built in SharpCap Python scripting language. In this case you can imagine having a script that knows the gains and exposures which you have in your dark library and would then add a button to the toolbar which when pressed would move to the nearest gain/exposure combination in the dark library (you'd press this button after the brain done its calculations).

Cheers, Robin

Hi Robin
Will have to look into Python as I have never used it I can code C so hopefully it is similar will have to buy a book plan B in the interim is a check list stuck to the wall of the observatory :D

Cheers
