Live Stack Save Exactly as Seen

#1

Post by BlackWikkett »

Robin,

Would it be possible to allow 16 bit PNG files in Live Stack save exactly as seen? Add a bit depth toggle in in settings or add a 5th option to the drop down save options?

Thanks

Hi,

That one's a bit tricky because the current way that the function works is that it saves the frame just before it is about to be displayed on screen at which point it has been dropped down to 8 bit ready for display.

Does this mean that the images we see displayed in Live Stacking are all 8 bit?

Hi,

Yes because monitors, graphics cards and graphics drivers that support more than 8 bits of colour depth are still rarer than unicorn poo, so there's no point in sending an image of the bit depth greater than 8 to the screen. In fact windows has a whole bunch of issues that you have to work around if you do try to do this, so it's far better not to.

The same for pretty much every other piece of image processing and display software – the final displayed image will be at 8 bits.

Cheers, Robin

I thought this would be answer but glad to get confirmation. I'd still like to have the option to save exactly as seen with the display histogram stretch applied in 16 bit. Please keep it on the radar for when you have time to add the feature sometime in the future.

Thanks for your attention to my request!
