A recent capture of M1, Crab Nebula, with an ASI120MC. Camera settings file below.

https://www.astrobin.com/332681/

Celestron C8, CG5 mount, TS f6.3 reducer, ASI120MC, no filters
1280 x 960, 100 x15s, gain=20, brightness=10, 50 darks, no flats, output to FITS

Autostakkert!3 (see screen below) was used to:
  • create a master dark
  • calibrate the lights
  • debayer
  • stack
The TIF output file was processed with Photoshop.

This is a test capture loaded in FITS Liberator to ensure a reasonable histogram and tonal range
before capturing the 100 frames.

Autostakkert took around 30s to process the data files on a quad core Xeon 3.4GHz with 16Gb memory and a dedicated RAID0 striped array comprising 2 x 240Gb SSD drives.

Cheers Brian. I had to dig deep in Photoshop to tease that one out; plenty of Curves > Auto.

The mini-histogram stretch was useful to see if I actually had anything to capture.

I will look at increasing gain and exposure (separately of course) next time I visit that object.
