Found some old data hiding in 80Gb of captures. May 22nd 2021 @ 23:00. elevation 33°.
Celestron AVX mount, Celestron C8 SCT, Baader UV/IR cut filter, QHY5LII-M, JMI Motorised Focuser.
MONO8, 640x480, SER, exposure=2ms, gain=7, 70fps.
Autostakkert3: stack best 355 of 4100 frames with drizzle 1.5; Registax 6: wavelet sliders 1=10%, 2=20%, 3=10%; GIMP: crop & contrast.

Small craters visible in Porter (see Virtual Moon Atlas) so the seeing must have been reasonable even for the low elevation.

Hi Dave,

Lots of detail there -- but I couldn't resist the temptation to compare your image of Clavius with the near IR image of Filippo below.

The shadow angles in the two are near identical - so you must have both picked near enough the same opportune moment for this crater?

The C8 seems to have done nearly as well as the C11 plus barlow in terms of resolution - but even allowing for differences in contrast I think that the bigger telescope has resolved a bit deeper which I suppose is not surprising.

Thanks Tim.

Given equal seeing, the C11 is always going to dig deeper than the C8. Many lunar top picks on Astrobin are captured with C14's. The C14 and ZWO ASI174M combination stands out for Top Pick and Image Of The Day lunar work.
